It's comforting to know I am not alone!! I actually haven't seen Avatar yet, but I have seen a few clips of it, and I was quite confused about seeing PAPYRUS!!

I was thinking to myself... no way, must be some custom typeface that just reminds me of it. But they actually must have used it! With all those talented artists in Hollywood you would think they could get one of them to draw a custom typeface for the movie - it's not like Cameron couldn't afford to pay a designer!

I love your comparison to Chandler, Mark!! I feel like that exactly. Even my closest family and friends are confused by my job (they all think I can fix computers?).

I finally saw Avatar (which I loved — I don't care what the science fiction movie experts of the world think) and I was struck immediately with "Papyrus!! How could they use Papyrus!!" But, I couldn't express my shock to anyone in the theatre with me (I just sounded like a crazy person to them). Then, I came home and jumped on Twitter and saw:

"An Open Letter to James Cameron From Papyrus"

And, I was no longer alone :)

I totally agree. And since I gradated I have been working remotely for a design agency full-time, so I don't have much actual real face-to-face contact with other designers on a daily basis. So, Twitter, blogging and the whole online virtual office environment we have created gives me a good way of keeping on top of things like yourself, and not feeling quite so isolated.

Most of my close friends have no clue what I actually do for a living either. Probably a bit like Chandler Bing in Friends. To most of them they would probably say "computers", which is a bit less than accurate. So having contact with other like minded designers does give me a lot of satisfaction (and relief).
