How well are design salaries supposed to keep up with inflation? Are there any published data on typical annual increases?

Ah, Manda- thanks for saying what artists/graphic artists/designers have been trying to say to clients FOREVER: “They just see the final product and say, “I could have done that.” Well, sure, after the hard part is finished, maybe you could execute the design. But, let’s see you come up with something yourself when faced with a blank piece of paper. That’s where the challenge lies.”-Manda EXACTLY! My hope is this is when my portfolio comes into play and showcases my talents, creativity and diversity. It also doesn’t help when clients put a strict set of restrictions or guidelines on a project that a designer must abide by–well of course it looks boring, you locked my creativity in a cage!

Interesting stuff. @mark I think it really comes down to supply and demand. I think that is what the difference is. Teachers for instance don’t make as much as they should…maybe because there are a lot of them.
