As I’m doing research for Creative Opera, I come across lots of design-related websites, photos, and blog articles that I think are inspiring, educational, or just plain entertaining. I thought that I would start bookmarking those pages, and posting the links weekly for my readers. Here are my favorites for this week.
Webdesigner Depot did a really awesome post on Monochromatic Website Designs. They show 50 samples of sites that have interesting, well-balanced designs, despite the fact that they (mostly) use only one color.
GraphicDesignBlog.org featured 20 photographs that claim not to be Photoshopped. Maybe some of our readers who are photographers can help Charlie determine which have not been retouched?
Even though this one was posted last month, I had to include it. Jim Walls from 160over90 conducted a test called The 50 Dollar Logo Experiment. As designers, we’ve all had clients argue about pricing by pointing out that they can get a logo (or a website or a brochure) online for an absurdly low price. Jim wanted to find out what type of logo (and what type of service) he could get from one of those low-rate companies. One year and one Sponge Bob look-alike later, he’s still waiting on his logo. A hilarious true story, and a great come-back story for your next client looking for bargain-basement pricing.
You’re going to love these samples of Clever and Creative Bus Ads from Toxel. Hilarious!
A EXTENSIVE collection of Beautiful and Creative Business Cards was put together by Naldz Graphics. Bookmark this page if you’ve ever been at a loss for a creative business card idea.
And, I know this one is older, but I love it, so I couldn’t pass it up. Check out this image of the “Real Photoshop” by Art Snob Solutions. And, click here to see how it was done.

This is awesome. Here at work we have a thing now where we find examples of good design. I’ve been having a hard time finding, what I consider, sites that are well designed and intuitive. You give me some avenues I haven’t searched. So, thanks!

I’m glad that this is useful for you! I think it’s cool that you guys are finding ways to keep inspired at work. Working on this blog, I feel more inspired than I have in a long time – it’s great to be talking to other designers again! That’s the one bad thing about working from home…
Hey Manda…thanks for listing my post “20 Photographs claiming NOT to be Photoshopped”. I came across your blog and found it quiet intresting.
