YES! I also know a lot of students who never even go on interviews because they spend YEARS trying to perfect their portfolios. By time they are happy with their books, all of the design programs have come out with two new upgrades and they have been completely left behind.

Here is advice that I would give before and after an interview. Are you ready?... EXPECT GREATNESS!!! As a society we are bombarded with negativity and we get it from all directions! (News, radio & internet) We get it so much that we never expect good things to happen. So how can we ever expect GREAT things to happen? You have to renew your mind. Start expecting good things to happen! Expect a great interview, expect human resources to call you and offer you the job. I know, it takes works! I'm still a work-in-progress :) You will see results!!!

This list is great, it covers the gamut. The one thing I would add about the portfolio, is that if you are a student or recent graduate, the design firm expects you to have student work. Don't let that hold you back. My brother graduated with a design degree, but was afraid to show his student work because it was from school. He still works in a sandwich shop.

Giving thanks is an absolute must. Do not wait a day to send it. Once you get done with the interview, find a computer or write a handwritten thank you and send it immediately. Also, try to be specific on what you can bring to the team and also what you discussed during the interview. It shows that you want the job. If you have the email address of each person that you met with, let's say the art director and the designer, send them individual emails to thank them.

One thing thats not really interview related but will help is do everything you can to get an internship. The experience, no matter if it's just production work, will help get you in the door and possibly the job.
